For nearly 100 years, Xavier University of Louisiana has been dedicated to increasing diversity across industries. Xavier’s commitment to hiring the most qualified faculty and staff and allowing all the same opportunities, no matter their race or creed, sets it apart in the realm of higher education, where traditional leadership structures often lack diversity and inclusivity. Dr. Richard Peters, Xavier’s associate dean in its College of Arts and Sciences and professor in the university’s Division of Business, stands as a beacon of positive change as a recently selected participant in the MSI Aspiring Leaders program.
Educational Leadership, Faculty & Staff, Community EngagementSince the Xavier University of Louisiana was founded nearly 100 years ago by St. Katharine Drexel and her Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, it has boasted generations of students who strive for distinction and promote a more just and humane society. This past weekend, one such Xavierite, Terrol Perkins, served as an example of the standard for achievement and excellence instilled in every Xavier student; Perkins, a student leader and graduating senior, competed in the Belford V. Lawson Oratory Competition at the 78th annual Alpha Phi Alpha Southwestern Regional Convention, winning first place among the collegiate speakers.
Student Life, Educational LeadershipAt Xavier University of Louisiana, students are encouraged to go above and beyond in their endeavors. For some, this includes taking leadership positions, joining different organizations on and off campus, or volunteering their time to their communities. For others, this can take the shape of pursuing multiple degrees to gain more knowledge and skills that could benefit their careers. For one student, Seth Alexander, this pursuit includes leadership positions, dual-degree programs, and, most recently, a championship win in the university’s track and field program, marking his second National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championship.
